NYFW: Calvin Klein by Raf Simmons Fall 2018

Let's see, so the invitations for this show were bags of popcorn, so OF COURSE I should have seen it coming that the show would be a gigantic waste of food. I mean, a floor covered in popcorn...so that...sexy firefighter types....could walk through it....to save...fashion?

Perhaps the inspiration was the desolate tundra of the Unites States once Russia succeeds in its covert but targeted dissolution of the American democratic system.  Then it makes sense. Its labor camp chic.

What doesn't make sense is how much less this looks like a Calvin Klein show, than just an extended Raf Simmons show with a larger budget. Trademark Raf knitwear, boxy silhouetted blazers, and exquisite layering showcase the still freshly minted creative directors influence at the brand. Not something I'm all too upset about since THIS was the Raf show that I had been waiting for during his eponymous collection (which was a bit of a snooze fest if you ask me - you can read our review of the Raf Fall 18 show here).

The random looney toons character sweaters, and even more random peek-a-boo window pane geometric chiffon slip dresses ASIDE, this show was actually one of the most exciting of the week. Well done Mr. Simmons.
